Fall is by far one of the best times to fish any smallmouth lake. This is a great time to catch your limit of huge fish.

Smallies like to stock up in front for winter, a time when they are not as likely to get a belly full of shad or whatsoever baitfish is available in that lake.

So, the key is to locate baitfish. That’s where you will find the smallies.

Your focus in the fall will not be much dissimilar than in the spring. Set your websites on shoal shelves adjacent to deeper water (flats that drop sharply), likewise rocky humps and shoals with patches of grass mixed in.

Fish may be at any depth, but you will largely want to look in 8 to 12 feet of water in the fall.

This is going to be a bit hit and miss because smallmouths gather in huge schools of up to 50 fish. So if you don’t find them quickly, move on.

The best baits for this method are spinnerbaits, crankbaits, and hard jerkbaits fished quickly. These grant you to cover a lot of water fast. Keep the lure just under the surface.

When you do nail one and suspect there are more to be had, but they have refused your original offer, undertake using a slower moving bait like a soft plastic tube.

Work the area tardily and completely. Follow-up is exceedingly essential to catching the greatest or most complete or best possible amount of fish from an area.

Once you have found them, you don’t want to leave any of them behind.

I have a big problem!!!

I purchased this product like a Christmas gift for my nephew in Venezuela but my nephew is indicating to me that the rod is defective and incompleted, the reel is stuck, will not turn, additionally one party arrived missing a part of the rod, how can we resolve this problem?

THE REEL IS EXTREMELY NICE…I PURCHASED THE 8000 LARGE REEL.MY ONLY DISSAPOINTMENT WAS THE ROD DESCRIPION WAS VAUGE.AND I GOT A 11ft. SURF ROD INSTEAD OF A BOAT ROD.

great reel not so great rod.

i got the 10ft combo with the 8000 reel and the reel retrieve is very fast and smooth. average casting on a heavier line im sure it would fly on a 20lb test line with 2oz sinker. the reel takes a beating but the rod is too weak and has a lot of flex but there is very little feel from the rod. I would recommend finding a smaller rod depending on the type of fishing your doing or use the 10′ carefully. Penn still makes great reels!

Great reel at a great price

This is my second Trio, but my first of the high speed “s” models, and so far I love it! I use it mainly for ocean fishing in the southern California waters. The drag is super smooth and the reel feels solid through and through. Kinda wish the handle had a larger or more durable feeling material, but this is a vey minor gripe. I highly recommend this reel for ~30lb braided line.
Also Okuma customer service has been great in the past with previous equipment I’ve bought from them.

Light and strong

These two were purchased to be part of a light weight, heavy duty rig for all day bay fishing for specks and reds. I am pairing them to two American Rodsmiths H3 Titanium Ultra ML 7′ Med/Light Trout Special with the recoil guides. I just got the reels in today and I must say that I think this will be a great setup. The reel feels light, but stout and well put together. I think that you would be well served by buying this reel. I cannot wait to go tear up the bays!

faulty out of the box

I was anxiously awaiting the arrival of this reel. When I received it. I removed all factory tags etc. put it on my new 7′ freshwater rod and tried the crank. immediately I noticed a slow spot or “sticky” spot when turning the crank. I am very displeased with this. With the name Okuma and by digging a little deeper in my pocket, I thought I’d be getting a good quality reel. Though I am fully satisfied with its looks and over all construction, something just doesn’t seem right with the way it is operating. I will try and see if either the Amazon seller or maybe the Okuma warranty will live up to its name…. wish me luck.

The TU-150 is 15′ long. It is 3 pieces. I own 2 and bought my 3rd on 11/9/10 on Amazon.
The rod is phenomenal. I recommend you litely sand all connecting points for the joints so that the sections do not stick together because they will… after sanding rub surfer’s “SEX WAX” for surf boards around the connecting joints (inside/outside as applicble). This rod casts about 30% further than my 12′ surf rods and I use it in extreme surf with heavier weights OR when I just want to cast as far as any human being can cast a weight and a bait…no kidding…. I am able to cast 12 and 14 ounce weights with this rod in extreme conditions and I can cast an 8 ounce weight so far I have had other surf fishermen watch in awe. I fish for Stripers and Blues on Long Beach Island N.J. and this rod is great. Clean it after every use, treat it well and enjoy it.
Put a good reel on it, big reel recommended as this is a big rod. Nice tip action does not lie, tells you when a fish is messing with your bait. It takes a bit of muscle and skill to cast this beast and I love mine (all 3)…..they make surf fishing even more fun !. Enjoy !.

Can cast very far that is why I loving this rod

Pros:
It is long 15′ and that gives better casting distance
The first guide has a large diameter so the line travels easily
Compared to other surf rods guide diameters are larger including the last guide which I believe adds more distance to the casting
Rod color white is better when fishing at night to detect bites without using bells or led light
Stronger rod blanks
Non slip thick rubber grips and their positioning is better for distance or power casting
The rod action is very good for distance casting

Using this reel in saltwater, 6.5′ Uglystick for fluke and striped bass, etc. Long casts and fast retrieve. I have two other Okuma reels Salina SA55 the best. Coronado 65 both for surf fishing. Great value for the money.

In this article I’m going to explore a good deal of of the more frequent and effective baits for crappie fishing. Are these baits the only baits that may be used for crappie? Of course not, but they are numerous of the most effective, and one of the keys to catching these delicious fish is using the proper bait.

Crappie fishing bait comes in a assortment of styles from live to synthetic. The underneath baits are a great deal of of your best bets to catch more fish on your next crappie fishing excursion. If you want to catch crappie, any or all of these baits will have to be a share of your fishing repertoire. Many anglers like to fish for crappie at night and all of these baits work rather well after the sun goes down. The time of day that you fish is up to you and the point is that any of these selections will serve you well.

1. Marabou Jigs – Marabou jigs have furry bodies and a fluffy feathery tail. Once in the water the feather tail shrinks up and looks completely different. This seems as if it might not work, but the action devised by the marabou underwater is what the crappie find intoxicating. These jigs are a very effective crappie fishing bait. Vertical; jigging over structure with these jigs may be rather effective for crappie, and if you don’t have access to a boat these jigs may be fished under a slip bobber effectively.
2. Twister Tail Jigs – Twister tails are rigged on a little jig head and have a great underwater action. Crappie and jigs tipped with a twister tail have long been known as a great crappie fishing bait. If you use Berkley’s Power or Gulp twister tails they are much more effective. These productions have been infused with fish attracting scents. Many crappie anglers say that these merchandise even out fish live bait! The bottom line is that twister tail jigs are a wondrous and effective bait for crappie fishing.
3. Live Minnows – Live minnows are in all probability the best known crappie fishing bait of all time and are very effective. As a matter of fact, if possible, you probably need look no further than live minnows. Either of the jigs above may even be tipped with live minnows to make a deadly combining bait. If you’re fishing with live minnows alone (many times underneath a bobber) the most effective way to rig them is a set of #8 or #10 pre-tied gang hooks. The live minnow is merely hooked through the lips, then the second hook is permitted to “hang free” (or the second hook may be placed in the minnow’s back). Gang hooks are the best way to keep your live minnow alive.

When it comes to crappie fishing bait the above baits are in all likelihood the top 3. If not, they are most surely in the top 5. Fishing for crappie is a ton of fun, and as I alluded to earlier, they don’t taste too bad either. As a matter of fact Crappie are without apparent effort one of the best tasting freshwater fish of all time.
